.... WHAT IS AN AU PAIR? ....

“Louise arrived yesterday and is settling in with us. Thanks for finding her for us. Thanks for your excellent service.”

“As ever – Thank you for your brilliant service”
Lizzie & Carlo Sorrachi

An au pair is a young language student who lives with a "host-family" and generally helps with childcare and light housework for up to 30 hours each week to include one evening’s babysitting in return for full-board and lodging and minimum pocket-money of 80 pounds each week.  Most families nowadays contribute towards a language course and the cost of travelling in London.  Au pair pocket-money has not increased pro-rata in line with these essential expenses.  They usually study at a local language college on two or three mornings each week.  They should be treated as a member of the family.

If you expect your Au Pair to be responsible for young children in your absence, we strongly recommend that you support them in learning paediatric first aid and lifesaver skills.
