An au pair is a young language student who lives with a "host-family" and generally helps with childcare and light housework for 25 hours a week + 2 evenings' babysitting in return for full board and lodging and minimum pocket-money of 70 pounds a week. They will be studying English on a part-time basis at a college, probably near to your home. If you expect your Au Pair to be responsible for young children in your absence, we strongly recommend that you support them in learning paediatric first aid and lifesaver skills.
